Using reflex mechanisms for self-treatment is a very good idea. And it can be used for treatment of nearly all diseases. As any irritation is transmitted in our body in the form of nerve (electrical) impulses, it should be possible to make a universal “electrical” pill, why not? I have started giving therapy to an insomnia patient. She had suffered from insomnia for more than eight years and after first session, she had a long deep sleep of about ten hours on the first day. Insomnia pattern bounced back after 2nd day. But, nice deep sleep again on the first day of 2nd therapy, same bounce-back of insomnia pattern on the 2nd day post-treatment. Her general condition is improving but I try to figure out better ways of interfering with brain cycles of sleep …
